✨ What This Channel Is All About
Catch On Fire Podcasts focuses on the powerful intersection between Bible teaching, historical insight, and practical discipleship. Each episode is built around Scripture—individual verses, full chapters, Bible themes, or theological concepts. But understanding the Bible requires more than reading the words on the page. It requires knowing why those words were written, who they were written to, and how those truths continue to speak to us today.
That’s why this channel combines historical background, biblical context, and modern application to help Scripture come alive. By examining the culture, customs, and worldview of biblical times, we uncover deeper meaning and discover how God’s message remains relevant for every believer.
Episodes also connect Scripture to current events, daily struggles, real-life scenarios, and personal growth—because the Bible is not a book of ancient stories; it is the living Word of God that continues to instruct, correct, and guide us.
Whether you’re seeking encouragement, clarity, or a deeper understanding of God’s truth, Catch On Fire Podcasts provides teaching that is easy to follow, spiritually enriching, and grounded in sound Christian doctrine.

What Shaped the Greatest Heroes of Faith?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A lot of people talk about legacy like it’s money, status, or opportunities. We’re digging into something more personal and more challenging: the quiet spiritual power that mothers and parents carry, and how ordinary faith can shape history. David is the only person in Scripture described as a man after God’s own heart, and he points back to an origin story many of us skip right past, serving God the way his mother did. That single line forces a question: what are our children learning about God by watching us?
We frame the conversation around three truths that show up again and again in the lives of biblical and Christian heroes. First, godly mothers model a life worth copying, and Susanna Wesley’s disciplined prayer, teaching, and one-on-one spiritual care shows how deep discipleship starts at home. Second, godly mothers fight for their children’s survival, from Jochebed’s brave choices to protect Moses to the relentless determination of Wilma Rudolph’s mother, who refused to accept a life sentence spoken over her daughter’s body.
Third, godly mothers dedicate their children to God’s purposes before results are guaranteed. Hannah’s vow and Samuel’s calling reveal what surrender really costs, and Hudson Taylor’s story shows how a parent’s prayers can echo across decades and nations. If you’re craving practical Christian parenting wisdom, biblical encouragement, and a clearer vision for disciple-making in your family, press play and take notes. Subscribe, share this with someone raising kids in faith, and leave a review so more people can find it.

Does A Mother Shape The World
SPEAKER_00Is it really true that as William Ross Wallace states, the hand that rocks the crater rules the world?
David’s Heart And His Mother’s Faith
SPEAKER_00David is the only person in Scripture described as a man after God's own heart. In Psalms 86 16, David testifies that he serves God as his mother did. In this episode, we will examine the powerful role that mothers played in the lives of biblical and Christian heroes through the lens of three truths. First, these mothers modeled a godly lifestyle. Second, these mothers fought for their children's lives. Third, these mothers dedicated their children to God to be mightily used by Him. Stay with me as we look at these examples and discover how the faith and courage of these mothers can help us grow as disciples of Christ. Michael Linson, a classroom management expert and order, posits that modeling is the most powerful and effective teaching method. Modeling involves specifically showing students exactly how to perform a task or behave rather than just telling them. The prophet Samuel then told Saul that the kingdom of Israel would be taken away from him. It would be given to a man after God's own heart, David. No other person in the Bible before or after has ever been said to be a man after God's own heart. When Samuel made his way to Bethlehem to anoint one of Jesse's sons as king, David was not invited to the dinner. God then proceeded to emphatically reject all seven of Jesse's sons that appeared before Samuel. God told Samuel that while man looks on the outward appearance, God looks on the heart. They called David from the fields where he was minding sheep. Samuel then anointed David, King of Israel. It is David who gave us the iconic 23rd Psalm, which states that the Lord is my shepherd. Of the 150 Psalms, David is identified as the author of 75. David's name is referenced in the Bible some 1100 times, more than any other person in the Bible. Matthew, the first book in the New Testament, begins by identifying Jesus as being descended from David. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus refers to himself as the Son of David. In the final chapter of the New Testament, Revelation 22, Jesus affirms that he is the root and offspring of David. In Psalms 86, 16, David pleads with God to save him, have mercy on him, and show his strength on his behalf. David justifies this request by asserting that he worships God just like his mother did. Are we modeling godliness for our children? Christian history tells the stories of many who did great exploits for God. However, the stories of the mothers of these Christian heroes are not as well known.
Susanna Wesley And Modeled Godliness
SPEAKER_00Susanna Annes Lee Wesley was born in 1669. She was a minister's daughter and the youngest of 25 children. At age 20, she married Samuel Wesley, a minister in the Church of England. The marriage experienced difficulties. Samuel was a poor handler of money to such an extent that he even spent time in debtor's prison. Twice they lost their home to fire. Only half of Susanna and Samuel's 19 children survived to become adults. In the process of raising her children, Susanna committed six hours, six days a week to the academic and spiritual education of her children. Additionally, Susanna purposely spent one hour a week with each individual child discussing spiritual matters. Susanna would also spend an hour every day in solitary prayer and Bible study. In 1729, one of Susanna Wesley's sons, Charles, formed a holy club at Oxford. He was later joined by his brother John Wesley and George Whitfield. This club appears to have been modeled after what John and Charles had observed their mother Susanna Wesley practicing daily. The members of this club studied and discussed the Greek New Testament and the classics each evening in a members' room for three hours. They fasted on Wednesdays and Fridays until 3 p.m. They received Holy Communion once a week. In addition, they took food to poor families, visited lonely people in prison, and taught orphans how to read. The term Methodist was a nickname given to this holy club at Oxford. It referred to the club's methodical approach to study, prayer, and piety. Members of this holy club, John Wesley, Charles Wesley, and George Whitfield, helped spark a revival in England in the first half of the 18th century. This revival even spread to America. The evangelical movement that these three men started were gone to become the Methodist Church. Today, the United Methodist Church is estimated to have approximately 10 million members. Susanna Wesley's son, Charles Wesley, wrote, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and Christ the Lord is risen today. Another of Susanna's sons, John Wesley, wrote the hymn, And Can It Be. The wise King Solomon in Proverbs 22:6 admonishes us to train our children in the way that they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart from it. What if God is calling us to mother godliness for our children? In the animal kingdom and among human mothers, the instinct to protect the child is legendary. A mother rhinoceros will directly confront lions to protect her young.
Jochebed’s Courage To Save Moses
SPEAKER_00In Exodus 2, the Old Testament provides us with the story of Joachebed, who fought to ensure that her son Moses would not die at the hand of Pharaoh. Jochebed was an Israelite who was a slave in Egypt under the reign of Pharaoh. The Bible states that the Pharaoh arose who had no memory of how the Israelite Joseph had saved Egypt from famine. Instead, this Pharaoh was convinced that the Israelites were a danger to the Egyptians and needed to be constrained. This Pharaoh issued a kindly decree that at birth every male child of the Israelites was to be thrown into the river Nile as food for the crocodiles. Jochebed defied this order and hid her son for three months after his birth until she could hide him no longer. The Egyptians used papyrus plants to make very light and swift boats. Joachibed coated one of these papyrus boats with tar and pitch so that no water could seep in. The Hebrew word that is translated as papyrus basket in this story is only used one other place in the Bible, and that is to refer to Noah's Ark. Joachibed placed the baby in the basket and trapped it in the reeds that were growing alongside the river Nile. It is believed that Jocebed knew that Pharaoh's daughter would appear at this spot on the Nile. Jewish scholars presumed that Jochebed was a domestic servant in Pharaoh's household and so would have been privy to that detail. Jochebed then left Big Sister Miriam to stand guard over the baby. The location of this spot where Pharaoh's daughter came to bathe is now known as San, but was then called Zoantanis. This Tanitic branch of the river is near the sea and no crocodiles are ever found there. It was also the western boundary of the area occupied by the Israelites. As Pharaoh's daughter took her bath, her attendants fanned out along the riverbank to ensure her privacy. Pharaoh's daughter spotted the basket and asked one of the attendants to bring it to her. When she opened it, the baby was crying and that touched her heart. She immediately recognized that this was a Hebrew baby. Jewish legend states that Pharaoh's daughter and her attendants could not get the baby to stop crying no matter who held the baby. Miriam then stepped in and volunteered to find someone to nurse the baby. When Moses' mother came, Pharaoh's daughter offered to pay Jochebed to look after her own child. Moses would grow up and lead the Israelites out of bondage. Let us reflect on the truth that as godly parents, we must be prepared to fight for our children's survivors.
Wilma Rudolph And Refusing The Verdict
SPEAKER_00Recent history provides us with the legendary tale of Wilma Rudolph, who is known for her feats as a track and field superstar. Few, however, know the steps that her mother courageously undertook in order to ensure Wilma's ability to excel at physical sports. Wilma Rudolph was born in Clacksville in the Bethlehem area. She was the 20th of her father's 22 children from his two marriages. Wilma was a premature baby and only weighed 4.5 pounds when she was born on June 23, 1940. As a child, Wilma was very sickly. She had pneumonia and scarlet fever, and at the age of five, she caught polio. This bout with polio left Wilma semi-paralyzed. She lost strength in her left leg and foot. The doctors in Clarksville told Wilma Rudolph's mother that Wilma would never be able to walk properly. Wilma Rudolph's mother didn't accept the doctor's words. For two years, on a weekly basis, Wilma's mother took the bus into Nashville with Wilma so that she could receive treatment of that left leg at Mehari Medical College. This was a 50-mile journey one-way round trip of 100 miles by bus. Additionally, four times a day, Wilma Rudolph received massages from her family at home. She also wore an orthopedic shoe to support her left foot for two years. Due to these interventions, Wilma was able to overcome the effects of the polio paralysis by the time she was 12 years old. Wilma went on to play basketball and run track in high school. As a sophomore in high school, Wilma Rudolph scored 803 points in basketball, which was a national USA record at that time. When Wilma graduated from high school, she attended Tennessee State University, TSU, and was part of the track and field team. While at TSU, Wilma Rudolph first won the AAU 200 meter title in 1959. She never lost at that distance during AAU competitions for the next four years. At the USA Olympic Trials in 1960, Wilma Rudolph set a record in the 200-meter dash that stood for eight years. Wilma represented the USA and won gold medals in the 100 meter, the 200-meter, and the 4x100 meter relay at the 1960 Summer Olympic Games in Rome, Italy. Wilma Rudolph became the first ever American woman to win three gold medals in track and field during a single Olympic Games. It was at these 1960 Olympic Games that the title of Fastest Woman in the World was conferred on Wilma Rudolph. When Wilma Rudolph retired from track and field, she was a world record holder in the 100-meter and 200-meter individual events and the 4x100 meter release. She was also undefeated at these distances. The mothers of Wilma Rudolph and Moses refused to accept the debt that was being spoken over their children's lives. Will we believe the Lord's report and fight for our children's future? One of the most powerful acts a mother can perform is to dedicate her child to God before they even take their first breath.
Hannah’s Vow And Giving Samuel Back
SPEAKER_00In 1 Samuel chapters 1 and 2, the Old Testament provides us with the story of Hannah. El Cana had two wives, Hannah and Penininah. Peninaina had children, but Hannah had none. In those days, a woman was considered to be cursed of God if she was barren. Year after year, Peninaina took every opportunity to mock and scorn Hannah because she had no children. Every year, El Cana would go up to Shiloh where the tabernacle was located to worship and offer sacrifice unto the Lord. On one of these expeditions to Shiloh, Hannah was being ridiculed by the other wife to such an extent that she refused to eat and wept greatly. After the feasting, Hannah went into the tabernacle to plead with God for her son. Hannah promised God that if he gave her a son, she would give the son back to God. Hannah went away and God gave her the son that she had prayed for. She named him Samuel, and when he was two to three years old, she brought him to the tabernacle to be raised there. Scripture records that God continued to be gracious to Hannah. Samuel was not her only child. She had three sons and two daughters. The story of this child, the prophet Samuel, is told in the books of 1st and 2 Samuel. 1 Samuel tells the story of the last two judges of Israel, Elijah a failure and Samuel a success. 1 Samuel speaks of the first two kings of Israel, Saul a failure and David a success. Like the mighty Samson, Samuel was dedicated to the Lord as a child, and so he never cut his hair. Samuel is the only spirit that we encounter in the Bible when at Saul's request the witch of Endor conjures him up. Samuel is one of only eight people in the Bible who had God call their name twice. Before Samuel was even conceived, Hannah committed Samuel to God. What is God calling us to dedicate to his service?
Hudson Taylor And A Mother’s Prayer
SPEAKER_00Christian history honors Hudson Taylor as the most influential missionary and the most successful missionary to ever visit China. When Hudson was just a newborn, his mother Amelia Taylor began praying that God would send her son to China as a missionary. Amelia saw great spiritual need in China and longed for God to use her son to meet it. In response to this prayer, God called Hudson Taylor to be a missionary to China when he was 17 years old. When Hudson left England in 1853 at the age of 21, only a few dozen missionaries had served in China. Hudson Taylor went on to serve God in China for more than 50 years from 1853 until his death in 1905. Hudson Taylor founded the China Inland Mission CIM in 1865. CIM established 20 mission stations, brought almost 1,000 missionaries to China's interior, and trained 700 Chinese workers. Hudson's efforts reaped an abundant spiritual harvest, including a strong Chinese church of around 125,000 believers. Under Taylor's leadership, the CIM was fully non-denominational and accepted members from all Protestant groups. It also welcomed individuals from the working class, single women, and multinational recruits. The CIM campaigned vigorously against the opium trade. The opium drug was being used by Western countries, mainly the British, to profit off of China. It led to huge incidents of addiction among the local Chinese population. Historian Ruth Tucker unequivocally states that since the Apostle Paul, no one other than Hudson Taylor, has evangelized such a large geographical area and has had such a wide vision for the souls of others. Let us reflect on the truth that God is calling us to go and make disciples of Jesus.
Three Truths And A Call To Respond
SPEAKER_00We started by asking if it is really true that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. In the course of this episode, we observed that many of the mothers of biblical and Christian heroes modeled the godly lifestyle for their children, fought for their children's survival, and dedicated them to God's service. Today, as we reflect on these truths, let us commit to likewise undertaking these steps so that we and our children can pursue great exploits for God. Confessing Life And Praying Psalm 23
SPEAKER_00Please join me as we confess words of life over all of our lives. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are still holding on to God's unchanging hand. We are still in God's holy plan. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are living holy lives as God requires. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, welcoming the stranger, giving clothes to those in need, ministering to the sick and visiting those in prison, and we are doing so to the least of those among us, as when we do so we are ministering to Jesus. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we have received healing, as by his stripes we are healed. From the crown of our head to the soles of our feet, all of our bodily organs are working correctly. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that God is ordering our steps, that all weapons that are formed against us have been utterly and completely destroyed, and every tongue that is rising against us in judgment is condemned. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that all generational curses are canceled. Anything that runs in our ancestral bloodline that is not of God has no power over us, our children and our grandchildren, and is eliminated forever right now. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that angels are watching over and keeping our family, our children, our grandchildren, our loved ones safe. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that every negative word that has been and is being spoken over our lives and that of our family, children, grandchildren, and loved ones is cancelled and sent back to the pit from whence it came. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are the head and not the tail. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are not and will never be ashamed. Our enemies have not and never will triumph over us. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that anything that is not of God that has been dispatched to hinder our blessings, our progress, and our well-being is immediately destroyed. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are financially in line with God's word, and as such we are lenders and not borrowers. As a result, all of our debts have been paid and are forgiven. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that the enemy of our souls has no authority over our finances and our funds, and that we are good stewards of the money that God has placed in our keeping. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus in the area of business and our carriers, that just as Isaac reaped a hundredfold, the blessings of Abraham are falling on us, and we are reaping a hundredfold from whatever we put our hands to. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are living under an open heaven in every area of our lives. Blessings are falling on us, our family and our loved ones. These blessings are being manifested in our lives, in the spiritual and in the physical. Let's repeat the 23rd Psalm together. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restored my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea though I walk to the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runeth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Final Blessing And Sending
SPEAKER_00The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Amen.
